Your Child’s First Visit

Pediatric Dentist in Boca Raton, Coral Springs, and Pembroke Pines, Florida

Your Child’s First Visit at our Pediatric Dentist in Boca Raton, Coral Springs, and Pembroke Pines, FL!

Your child’s first dental visit should be scheduled around their first birthday. One of the most important reasons of this visit is to familiarize your child with the dental office environment and to ease any anxiety associated with future visits. It is very important to make their first visit as positive and enjoyable as possible. We want your child to enjoy getting to know our friendly doctors and knowledgeable staff and be comfortable at all times, so it is very important to see a dentist for kids.

When you arrive for your child’s first visit, please be prepared to complete all insurance and health information forms that will allow us to begin your child’s dental treatment. We will ask you to fill out several forms that will get you acquainted with our office. You may also download and print these forms off our website, complete them beforehand, and bring them to the appointment to make checking in faster for you.

On this first visit, you and your child will be accompanied by the assistant and shown the office.

A gentle but thorough examination will be performed to monitor growth and development and address any problem areas. We will record the child’s dental and medical history, complete a comprehensive examination, and discuss any findings with you.

In most cases, we will also clean your child’s teeth on this visit and provide oral hygiene instructions along with suggestions to help your child care for his or her teeth. The exam will evaluate existing dental problems and provide you with any proposed treatment.

We will also review the importance of maintaining a good dental health program with you and your child to ensure a healthy and beautiful smile for life!

Dentistry can be scary for children, so our staff will take the time to try to ease your child’s fear and educate them about the “dental tools” in our office. We are here to answer your questions and show you special techniques to keep your child’s mouth as healthy as possible. We use age-appropriate words as well as very toothy stuffed animals. We also offer movies to keep your child engaged and toys are offered at the end of the visit for a great dental checkup or filling the appointment.

Preparing Your Child For Their Dental Visit

If old enough, your child should be informed of the visit and told that the our staff will explain all procedures, and answer any questions they have. Parents should try to casually introduce the visit as a new experience and keep from using any words that could cause unnecessary fear, such as “needle” or “drill.” We are experienced in dealing with children with anxiety and can explain treatment procedures in a positive and pleasant manner to avoid any anxious or negative feelings toward dentistry. Your child’s initial exam we estimate to last one half hour. We find children do better with this time frame on their first visit. However remember we run on child time, not adult time- so it could last longer or be shorter- our goal is to make sure your child’s first visit is thorough, and comfortable for your child.
